What is URL Encoding?

URL Encoding is the system of converting html symbols such as <, & and / into hexadecimal symbols so that they can be parsed without being confused for parameters or markup symbols. Each is preceded by a % symbol. Eg.

& - %26
/ - %2F
< - %3C
