SIP can establish sessions between two or more parties for features such as telephony or richer features (Gaming, videoconferencing and messaging)
SIP contains elements of authentication and also party identification. SIP Servers support traditional telephony features such as personal mobility, time-of-day routing and call forwarding based on the geographical location of the person being called by way of a registration database which records the current IP address of the device on a periodic basis.
