Founded in 1998, aql has been at the forefront of internet innovation for nearly 20 years. We’ve built critical pieces of the UK’s internet infrastructure, and we’re responsible for much of the data flowing through the North of England. One of aql’s Leeds data centres, located in the historic Salem Chapel, is home to IXLeeds – the only independent internet exchange outside London and the main hub for exchanging traffic between north and south.
Alongside fibre and line of sight connectivity, we work across wholesale telecommunications (SMS, voice, VoIP), data centre design and build, network design and security, M2M (machine-to-machine), wholesale 3G data, low-power systems, telemetry, artificial intelligence and the internet of things.
More than 37,000 clients, including many of the world’s biggest banking, technology, healthcare, education, law enforcement and government organisations (BT, Google, Twilio, Deutsche Bank and Boots among them) now rely on aql to connect with their customers and each other.
We’re also partners in the Northern Powerhouse, helping transform the North into a uniquely connected economy through initiatives such as our city WiFi project, and our involvement in Leeds’ bid to become the UK’s first 5G city.
