Digital Ilkley 2016 – a celebration of all things tech

Last Tuesday we attended the 2016 Digital Ilkley conference at the Kings Hall in Ilkley. The free event comprised both an exhibition and jobs fair, as well as a series of free talks throughout the day.

The morning of the event was largely taken up by a competition for school children. Local schools had programmed their own games using educational programming language Scratch, which were presented to the whole group in the Kings Hall and judged. The prize was awarded to Ashlands Primary School by Marvel Comics artist Adi Granov, who also delivered a talk on the comics and illustration industry.

aql CEO Dr Adam Beaumont took the stage after midday to discuss the future of tech and how today’s school children can fit into it – a fitting topic for an event attended by a number of local primary schools. This was later followed by the day’s keynote address from Mark Wright, winner of the 2014 series of The Apprentice. This was then followed by a careers fair.
