aql CEO at MIPIM to showcase Leeds on a global scale
aql founder and CEO Prof. Adam Beaumont was in Cannes, France last week as part of Leeds City Region’s largest-ever delegation to MIPIM, the world’s leading property market.
Beaumont was there in his capacity as a board member of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and a representative of the Northern Powerhouse to highlight the strength, success and ambition of the UK’s largest city region outside London and the South East to international investors.
He was joined by Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Leeds City Council; Kersten England, Chief Executive of Bradford City Council; Roger Marsh OBE, Chair of the LEP; Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness and Minister for Investment at the Department for International Trade; and Councillor Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council, among others.
Speaking on a panel to discuss transformational technology and 5G, Beaumont said: “It’s incredible to be at MIPIM sharing the bold opportunity to be pioneers in the tech behind the future of autonomous vehicles across the North and beyond. It’s a time to share the vision, to be brave and forward-thinking about the next decade of innovation,” adding, “Our region has opportunities to lead in the rollout of 5G tech to provide safe testing of autonomous cars and transport drones. The future is here, the technology works, we just need regulation to catch up. TrustTech will be key to the integrity of autonomous smart cities.”
‘TrustTech’, an umbrella term coined by Beaumont to describe methods of ensuring data is real, accurate and safeguarded from unauthorised modification, is the foundation layer to innovation in a data-driven society.
Established in 1990, MIPIM is a four-day real estate exhibition, conference and networking event that now brings around 24,000 international property professionals to the Croisette each year. Leeds City Region has attended for the past five years, with recent analysis revealing a direct and significant boost to the local economy and a sustained increase in inward investment.
