Global industry leaders descended on Tallinn, Estonia this month to discuss the future of technology and innovation.

The annual Futurism conference, organised by the Department for International Trade and the British Embassy, brings together pioneering tech organisations, thought leaders, startups and politicians for a day of talks. Topics this year included next generation public transport, the future of cyber security and engagement with the EU.

The conference aims to build cross-border relationships between organisations, increase British competitiveness overseas and further international debate on important issues.

aql founder and CEO Prof. Adam Beaumont delivered the conference’s talk on cyber security and the importance of integrity technology, which he refers to as “TrustTech”. He also appeared on a panel to discuss liability in AI and the challenges in proving the functional integrity of the next generation of autonomous transport.

Other speakers at the conference included Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Dr Alan James from Hyperloop One and former MP Lembit Öpik, as well as execs from Uber, Starship Technologies, NCC Group, NATO’s Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, Cybernetica and Mooncascade.

Known in tech circles as a hotbed of innovation, Estonia is the first country in the world to offer e-residency, a government-issued digital ID available to anyone in the world. The program, which allows holders to run a global business in a trusted EU environment, has reportedly seen a huge uptick in applications in the wake of Brexit.
