Who we are

We're a group of techies, creatives and everything in between, working together to connect people to make lives better, and we're always looking for talented people to join our growing team in the heart of South Bank, Leeds.

We innovate and break things. We do things other companies don't do. We recently launched our first self-driving POD, opened the Estonian Consulate to the North of England at our HQ, and flew a man in a jet suit around the city. aql isn't your average company, in other words, and our people aren't average either.

We want to be excited about coming to work and we want to make a difference. Otherwise, what's the point?

Where you'll work

image: Salem Chapel: where you'll work

You'll be working in one of the most unique spaces in the city - aql's historic Salem Chapel headquarters. Built in 1791, Salem is the oldest surviving non-conformist chapel in Leeds and was restored by aql in 2009. It was also the birthplace of Leeds United in 1919. You can read more about it here.

We've also got the most striking - if we do say so ourselves - venue in Yorkshire: A 370-seat glass-floored auditorium that looks down into a data centre below, as well as an exhibition space and a fully-licensed bar. We host all kinds of events and people throughout the year, including Leeds Digital Festival, FinTech North, astronauts, inventors, musicians, politicians (and even a prime minister!) In other words, there's always something fun to get involved with!

You can find directions here.

Knowledge

We are always learning, growing and evolving to continue to deliver the best possible service for our customers. We employ talented, passionate people and will share our knowledge to develop our skills, ourselves and our company.

What are the next steps?

1. Submit your CV

We'll look through it. Experience is great, but we're just as interested in transferrable skills and cultural fit. We'll be in touch if you're successful at this stage (usually within a month). We get lots and lots of applications for most positions, so please don't be put off if we take some time in getting back to you - we know how frustrating and nerve-wracking the whole process can be and we promise we're not doing it on purpose!

2. Phone call from aql

We’ll give you a call for a chat about you, your experience and what makes you tick. You’ll hear more about the role, the team and the company and we will answer any questions you have. If we think you and the role might be a good match at this stage, you could be asked to demonstrate your technical abilities via a remote test, depending on what role you’re applying for.

3. In-person interview

The next step is an interview at aql HQ, usually with one of our HR team and your possible future line manager. Interviews tend to last around an hour and will assess your professional abilities and personal characteristics through structured interview questions and scenarios. There may also be more skills tests or a presentation required, depending on the role. You'll have the chance to tour the building, get a better feel for our culture and have your questions answered. (Remember, this whole process is also about making sure aql is the right fit for you.) You may be invited back to meet other members of the team before we make a final decision.

4. Offer

If we love you, we'll make you an offer. And we hope you love us enough to accept, to start your aql adventure and help us make a difference.
