We’re proud to once again be supporting Child Friendly Leeds by acting as the main sponsor for their 6th annual awards ceremony.
The ceremony will take place next month and celebrates the work that is taking place across the city of Leeds to make it the best place for children and young people to grow up in.The prestigious event is planned and executed by a group of exceptional young people called The Dynamics who have organised every aspect of the awards and who will also host on the night.
Founder and CEO of aql, Prof. Adam Beaumont, explains why he is so keen to continue to support the awards: “When I was approached initially to get involved in Child Friendly Leeds, what really impressed me was the shared vision to place children at the heart of every major decision made in the city.
To thrive as humans, as students or as employees, having a happy childhood makes such a difference. Caring for our children and their environment collectively as a city is not only the right thing to do, but the only way of ensuring that the city can achieve its potential. We should all recognise the importance of making sure a child’s needs are catered for during their seminal years and in their early experiences.”
He added, “As a main sponsor of Child Friendly Leeds Awards for a second year– I think it is fantastic that young people are supported to plan and deliver the awards and I love the focus of the event, which celebrates the achievements of young people. It is also great to see people and organisations being recognised for the work they do to support young people.
The spirit and intent of the awards chime with my aspirations for the city and my hopes for young people to thrive in Leeds. It is great to see young people being encouraged to engage with the arts and also to invest and be active in their community. The fact that Leeds has a children’s Mayor just proves the city dedication to empowering and involving young people.”
This year’s awards will see 8 categories awarded after an astonishing near 600 nominations. After a difficult shortlisting process, 42 finalists have been selected.
Councillor Lisa Mulherin, Executive Member for Children and Families said: “We have been overwhelmed and delighted by the record number of nominations we have received this year. This truly reflects the continuous hard work that people, places and organisations in Leeds are doing to meet our child friendly ambition.
“It’s great that we are able to recognise this work through our Child Friendly Leeds awards. The fact that Leeds’ own talented young people plan and present the event makes it an even more special way to celebrate what so many are doing across the city to improve the lives of children and young people.”
Taking place on February 7th at Leeds City Varieties Music Hall, 400 people including Child Friendly Leeds supporters, leaders and city VIP’s will see the winners announced.
